Glover's AtollGlover's Atoll, also called Glover's Reef, is one of only four atolls in the Western Hemisphere, and three of those are in Belize. The atoll is part of the Belize segment of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world. Only Australia's Great Barrier Reef is larger.

Glover's is a United National World Heritage site and a Belizean national preserve.  Commercial fishing is protected within the reserve and Glover's serves as an important fish nursery: it is one of the last spawning grounds for the endangered Nassau grouper.

This wonderful atoll provides some of the best diving in Belize, or for that matter, in the entire western Caribbean. Isla Marisol Resort sits right on a 2,000-foot wall on the eastern side of the atoll.  Here you'll find spectacular diving: beautiful coral, arches and caves, and large reef fish schools mix with transient pelagic species such as sharks, turtles, manta rays, marlin and more. A few miles away, at Gladden Spit, some of the Caribbean's best whale shark diving can be found in the spring.

Most of our dive sites are literally minutes away from the resort, making it easy to return for a rest and a snack before heading out again.

Glover's Atoll's large area encompasses a myriad of much shallower patch reefs which are ideal for snorkelers. If you don't dive, don't worry! There are plenty of chances for you to sample Belize's best coral gardens and colorful reef fish! Isla Marisol provides two guided snorkel trips a day included in your package.

Isla Marisol is one of only five islands in the Glover's Atoll that is home to a crystal clear lagoon, a natural haven for many small fish, rays, nurse sharks and a large school of bonefish. At nighttime, visiting schools of tarpon may be seen also in the lagoon. It is over this lagoon that we have built our restaurant and bar, for enjoyment of the year-round gentle trade winds.

The local history of this caye is peppered with stories of pirates (one, old John Glover, provides the Atoll's name), smuggling and contraband, ghosts new and old - all are subjects for jolly after-dinner conversation. Today, Isla Marisol Resort is a premiere dive location, as well as a snorkeler's paradise, a fisherman's dream, and an all-out great place to relax. The nightlife here is conversation, night dives, moonlight walks, star-gazing or just relaxing with that good book you never could seem to find the time to finish!
