diving and swimming with whale sharks in BelizeEach spring, around the time of the full moon in Belize, the Cuberra snapper spawn along Gladden Spit, not far from Isla Marisol. They are shadowed by the world's largest fish, the whale shark, which can reach up to 50 feet in length and arrive to feed on the snappers' spawn. These benign monsters are filter feeders, are not aggressive and therefore make for a spectacular dive experience.

Our Whale Shark Weeks are calculated using this timetable.

Visibility is well over 100 feet and divers snorkelers can get quite close to the whale sharks, though there are now regulations in place which prohibit chasing or disturbing the sharks. It is common during these periods to see schools of snapper in the thousands, with the whale sharks passing through the schools, feeding.

Our regular scuba or snorkel package does not include the cost for visiting the whale sharks, so those interested in diving or swimming with whale sharks near Gladden Spit during the dates below should let our reservations office know at the time of making their booking. There will be an additional charge of $175/diver/trip for those going to Gladden Spit. This includes two dives, conditions permitting.
