Each year between March and June, around the time of the full moon, the whale sharks show up along Gladden Spit, not far from Isla Marisol Resort. These gentle giants (up to 40 feet long and weighing an average of 20 tons) have no problems sharing the water with divers and snorkelers. The whale sharks are just there to feast on the eggs of thousands of spawning Culubra snappers. It makes for an unforgettable, exciting-but-safe underwater adventure!
Of course there are never any guarantees, but the best chances of seeing whale sharks is about three days before the full moon to seven to ten days after. Visibility is well over 100 feet in the crystal clear waters of the reef, and you will be able to get quite close without disturbing them.
Add a whale shark dive to your stay at Isla Marisol Resort for $175. This rate includes the boat trip to Gladden Spit, 2 dive masters, and a maximum of 12 divers.
